Transit Regime on centre of the attention of Customs Management

Transit Regime on centre of the attention of Customs Management

24 May 2013

The recent inclusion of the transit regime in the customs clearance process through the Single Electronic Window (SeW), continue to deserve the attention of top management given its importance to the country and to the land locked countries that use the Mozambican borders in the import of goods.

Rosário Fernandes, head of Moz Revenue Authority, accompanied by Customs Director General and other senior managers visited Ressano Garcia border following constraints that had been occurring since the beginning of the introduction of transit regime in that site as result of lack of information or proper interpretation of the general norms and specific principles, foreseen in the customs legislation in force.

The bonded guarantee required to ensure customs duties, taxes and fees chargeable in case of loss of transit cargo or other factors, is appointed by freight forwarders as one of the reason for the difficulties in clearance process of goods in transit, despite being an international practice, however, in less competitive circumstances in Mozambique.

In order to smooth the process, urgent measures were undertaken to allow the parties involved greater preparation and comfortable use of the SeW for the said regime.
